Return of the Baby Whisperer

My sister (aka "The Baby Whisperer" or Auntie Paula) came to visit us for a couple of days this week. It was so fun catching up and just hanging out for a couple of days. We all enjoyed being spoiled! John and I decided we wanted to hire her to stay with us for a couple more weeks...but I suppose that wouldn't work out too well since she does have her own life, kids, hubby and work!

Auntie Paula meets Gwen

Check out the Halloween jammies she brought for Jackie! Jackie had to put them on as soon as she opened them! Here she is pretending to be a witch.

Watching a "little show" before bedtime.

Paula also helped me hang letters and decorate Gwen's room. I stole the poofy ball idea from my cousin and we made this "mobile!"

Thanks, Paula, for coming to visit and spoiling us!

Weekend With Grandma & Grandpa K

Grandma and Grandpa K came to visit us this past weekend! It was nice to spend time with them and of course, they enjoyed spoiling their grandchildren.

My Picasso Preview

This is what I've been up to the last couple of weeks when Gwen and Jackie miraculously nap at the same time! I stole the pattern from a burp cloth I received as a gift and recreated it on these letters to be hung in Gwen's room. It's not perfect, but it's definitely painted with love! Now for the hanging part...that might take me another couple of weeks

2 Month Check-up

Today we went in for Gwen's 2-month checkup and my post pregnancy appointment. She's tipping the scales at 10lbs 5oz and is 22in tall. She received her first round of shots today. She took them like any typical baby...got the red face, mouth open and crying...but no sound coming out. She then started to wail and cried so hard she started gagging and threw up all over the place. Poor punkin' :( She is doing great otherwise...is developing normally and even gave the doctor some smiles today(this was pre-shots!)

Today was also Jackie's first full day of Kid's Day Out. John went with to drop her off this morning, since he went to Gwen's appointment with me. She was pretty excited to go and she was very proud of her new Tinkerbell lunch bag! When we went to say good bye she got really serious, her mouth started to pucker and her eyes welled up with tears. She was so brave though...she held it in and the teachers quickly diverted her to the toys and other kids playing in her room. I'm anxious to see how nap time went. I'm suspecting we will have a very tired little girl tonight. It's kind of bitter sweet around here without Jackie around. It's quiet and I'm able to get a little more done. However, it feels weird around here, like something is missing. I know she's having a great time and she's learning so much, but I've been anxiously looking at the clock and I'm looking forward to picking her up and seeing her smiling face. In time, we'll both get used to the new schedule.

A Weekend of Milestones

We had a relaxing Labor Day Weekend with a few notable milestones to report....

*Gwen turned 6 weeks old and blessed us with two nights of about 8 hour stretches of sleep! We won't talk about how rough it was actually getting her to sleep...but we will definitely focus on the good part! Cheers!!

*I went for my first post-pregnancy run this weekend! I can say I'm in much better shape than I was after Jackie was born...but I won't lie, it hurt so good.

*Jackie participated in the donation of food items at church this weekend. She took up a canned good all by herself during the offering. It helped that our friends' kids went up as well.

*After living in our house for two years, we finally decided to give the attic fan a try this weekend. We are hooked!
*Jackie started her first day of Kid's Day Out this morning. Drop off went as well as it could have. She dug right in and started playing with the toys. When I said good-bye she asked me to stay and play with her, but I just told her I would be back and left it at that. After the parent's meeting I peeked in and she was playing away. Today is only a half day, so next week will be the real deal. It already seems quiet around here...I can't imagine what a full day is going to feel like!

She still does not like getting her picture taken...this was before leaving for KDO.

Our little peanut is getting bigger!

What to do?

We've been in the house A LOT the last month. I've been desperate to find things for Jackie to do other than watch TV...which we also do A LOT of. The other day I dug out some store bought sugar cookie dough and thought we could make some cookies. I really thought I only had Christmas cookie cutters...but to my surprise, I have some Halloween ones! Close enough! Jackie really enjoyed rolling the dough, cutting the cookies and "painting" them. A few pictures below of our creations...

And a BIG thanks to Gwen for sleeping in the bouncy for at least twenty minutes while I helped roll and cut. I did manage to frosting one-handed...but Jackie made a great team by holding the cookies for me.
