Rest and relaxation. It always sounds nice but for many, including myself, it's easier said than done. I'm typically the type of person who rises at the crack of dawn on Saturday morning and bascially doesn't sit down until I go to bed. So when I went for my 38th week doctor appointment on Friday and the doctor told me she was putting me on bed rest, I have to say I didn't exactly know how to react. Her instructions included: no work, no cleaning, no running to the store...bascially if I don't need to do it, I'm not supposed to do it. I've never had high blood pressure in the past, in fact it's always been low. For some reason or another though, my BP has spiked up the last couple of weeks of the pregnancy and the doctor is having me take some precautionary measures. I had to get some blood tests done and do another fun test that I will spare the details of. Although I feel about the age of 80 right now, better safe than sorry.
Yesterday was a little difficult, since it was about 45 and sunny out all day. John was a sport and went to the grocery store as I sat home and wrote out thank you's. My friend, Michelle, stopped over in the afternoon to visit so that was a nice break in the day. About 5pm, I was going stir crazy though. . .so John and I went for about a 30 min drive around Overland Park/Olathe. Big outing!! Today is going a little better. I'm getting used to this resting thing. We laid in bed until almost 8am this morning. . .that is super late for me. John made cinnamon rolls and we watched golf for the last couple of hours. The fact that it is raining/sleeting out right now, kind of helps. I think deep down John is enjoying this bed rest thing too, he is currently dozing in and out of sleep on the chaise while watching a movie.
So as far as I'm concerned the baby can come any day now, that would make this bed rest thing go a little faster. Until then, I'm going to catch up on my day time TV, read, email, and probably post a few more blogs the next couple of weeks. I do have to go into work for a couple of hours on Monday and clean up my desk and pass on a little unfinished business. Not exactly how I envisioned my last day at work to go, but I guess it might be better than long, sappy goodbyes. Plus, I'll be back in to visit after the baby is born and officially terminate my employment anyway.
